Game Library Uh-Oh's!

In the course of building up our library of games for loan to school libraries that directly align to state and national standards, we have made some selection choices that have not worked for various reasons. I wanted to share some of those with you, the reader, so that you can learn from our missteps.

Wizard: This was in our first batch of games that we selected. At heart it is a trick taking game with its current incarnation too visually similar to traditional card games.

Perikles: A game with potential as students have the opportunity to interact in the politics and warfare of the ancient Greek city-states. The problem was that the game's curricular return did not warrant the investment of time needed to play through the game.

Mexica: This is a great example of one of the biggest pitfalls with some of the modern board games... a pasted on theme. Some games, especially those coming from Europe, are developed around a strong and well developed mechanic with the theme coming secondly in consideration. In the case of Mexica, while the game was set in the ancient Aztec empire it brought no real reinforcement or immersion.

This list is a work in progress, so check back for future additions as we continue to grow.
